An emergency state has been issued in Hawaii before the possible climate of inclination raised by Hurricane Kiko, authorities said.
The interim governor of Hawaii, Sylvia Luke, issued the emergency proclamation on Friday afternoon, declaring an emergency state throughout the state.
“Proclamation activates emergency measures and resources to protect public health, safety and well -being. Tropical storm force winds, heavy rains and high surfs associated with Hurricane Kiko could begin to affect parts of the state as early as Monday, September 8, 2025,” said the governor’s office in a press release.
Until Friday, Hurricane Kiko is still a great hurricane located at approximately 1,200 miles east-southeast of Hawaii and it is forecast to approach the islands as a tropical storm earlier next week, authorities said.

“The emergency relief period will begin immediately and continue until Friday, September 19, 2025, unless it extends or ends before,” Luke said. “Several state laws are temporarily suspended to facilitate accelerated emergency response and recovery activities, including provisions related to acquisitions, public works and environmental regulations.”
