Chrysler is removing up to 91,787 Hybrid SUV Jeep Grand Cherokee hybrids about a software error that could result in a loss of drive power, according to a retirement notice issued by the Department of Transportation of the United States.
The withdrawal applies to certain 2022-2026 models of the SUVs, the The National Road Traffic Security Administration said.
The error can make “a vehicle crash without prior notice” due to unexpected loss of propulsion, according to the recovery report.
As of August 18, the company said it has no knowledge of any accident or injury related to this problem, according to the report.

According to the recovery report, “the restoration of the battery control module that is incorrectly interpreted by the hybrid control processor can cause a loss of propulsion. An unexpected loss of propulsion can cause a vehicle accident without a previous warning.”
The software error is within the hybrid control processor, caused by an overload of a microprocessor in the battery control module, according to the recovery report.
